Job Summary:
The Historic Preservation Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and implementing preservation initiatives within the Art and Design > Architecture department. This role requires a strong understanding of architectural history, preservation techniques, and relevant regulations. The specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the preservation of historically significant structures and spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Research and Analysis:
- Conduct extensive research on historical structures and sites to gather relevant data and information.
- Analyze architectural plans, documents, and historical records to determine appropriate preservation strategies.
- Collaborate with experts, historians, and stakeholders to gain insight into preservation requirements.
2. Preservation Planning:
- Develop comprehensive preservation plans for historical structures, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Identify and assess preservation risks, including environmental impact, structural stability, and aesthetic preservation.
- Formulate strategies to mitigate risks and ensure long-term preservation of historically significant elements.
3. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of historical structures, including architectural drawings, photographs, and relevant documentation.
- Create detailed reports and documentation of preservation projects, including progress updates, findings, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with external agencies and governing bodies to ensure compliance with preservation guidelines.
4. Project Management:
- Coordinate and oversee preservation projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to implement preservation plans effectively.
- Monitor and evaluate project progress, identifying and resolving any issues or challenges that may arise.
5. Education and Advocacy:
- Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops on historic preservation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Promote the importance of historic preservation through public speaking engagements, conferences, and community outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with local organizations and agencies to advocate for the preservation of historical structures and spaces.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in historic preservation or architectural conservation.
- In-depth knowledge of architectural history, preservation techniques, and relevant regulations.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret historical data accurately.
- Proficient in architectural software and tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of successfully coordinating and overseeing preservation projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Detail-oriented mindset, with a keen eye for architectural elements and preservation risks.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and establish effective working relationships.
